The Douro

Miguel Torga wrote «the Douro is, on the map of the smallness that has been given to us, the only immeasurable evidence with which we can astonish the world». It was this unique place that we chose to create equally unique wines in which is the oldest demarcated wine region in the world, surrounded by mountains that give it peculiar characteristics, and which extends over a total area of about 250.000 hectares.
In the Douro, the famous popular expression «9 months of winter, 3 months of hell» makes justice to the severe climatic conditions characteristic of the region, where more than 110 different varieties withstand harsh winters and very hot summers. Famous for Port Wine, the most famous liqueur in the world, the Douro is also recognized for its still wines, being the birthplace of a huge variety of native grape varieties and many parcels of old vines of exceptional quality.
