The History
Barão da Várzea do Douro is a new wine brand created by the Lencastre family, descendants of Antonio Pinot Garcez Madureira, first awarded the title of Barão da Várzea do Douro by Queen Maria II on July 16, 1846.
The Douro
Miguel Torga wrote «the Douro is, on the map of the smallness that has been given to us, the only immeasurable evidence with which we can astonish the world». It was this unique place that we chose to create equally unique wines.
The Wines
Our wines reflect the passion for this unique region based on details from the manual selection of the best grapes to the most suitable winemaking methods with the aim of obtaining wines with a genuine Douro character for the modern and demanding consumer.
